You'll notice when you define a field in the Repository that it may have a reference field attribute:
A reference field is a field already defined in the Repository. It defines the type, length, decimals, default value, edit mask, keyboard shift and input and output attributes for fields which refer to it.
If the reference field definition is changed, the change is automatically applied to all fields which reference it.
